Meet Again

Meet Again was actually supposed to be the first part of the song Eternity in Mind. But the way that it turned out was much better in the end. I intended this song to explore the themes of weakness that I feel on a daily basis and the strength that comes from dependence on the Lord. Whenever the song begins to play I feel a twinge of vulnerability as I sing about swinging back and forth between strength in my convictions and merely surviving my own decisions. I had no idea what to say to the Lord except “help” as heard in the pre-chorus.
In the chorus two things happen. First, I remind myself that it is not by my power or might (Zechariah 4:6; Ephesians 2:8-9) that the sanctification of God will occur in my life and in the grand scheme of things the issues that I am facing will all be put into perspective when we see in the full. I won’t necessarily get an explanation as to why I had to walk through certain trials, but in the end we will see him face to face and that is the greatest joy. (1 Corinthians 9:9-10; James 1:2-6)
I added a chord from outside of the key signature to mirror the perspective that comes from outside of our understanding. This is important because even though the chord is from outside the key signature and God’s understanding is so far from our own understanding they fit together perfectly. God knows what he is doing! The ending is a fun syncopated instrumental that reminded me of Revelation 23:21.
